Executive Director

The Organization and Opportunity

The Children’s Museum in Easton (CME), a much-loved treasure in southeastern Massachusetts, has launched the search for a new executive director.  With its founding executive director retiring after 25 years, the Board of Directors of the Children’s Museum in Easton seeks an executive director with a passion for children and their learning and the experience and skills to lead the organization into the next phase of its important work.

The Ideal Candidate

The next Executive Director of the Children’s Museum in Easton will be able to lead the organization in innovative directions while holding true to its core purpose of providing creative, hands-on learning experiences to young children of all backgrounds and abilities. This position requires a leader with high emotional intelligence, a relationship-builder who can easily and genuinely connect with people and is astute at building strategic partnerships.

Minimum Credentials

Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred.

Outreach Teachers

Experienced certified teachers are needed for the Museum’s Traveling Outreach Programs. Teachers travel to area sites including schools, after school programs, recreation departments and community events. This is a part time position, daytime, early evening and weekend teaching hours available. E-mail krissy@childrensmuseumineaston.org with questions or to apply.

Science on the Go! Educators bring engaging educational enrichment programs to a variety of preschools, elementary schools, childcare centers, and other children’s organizations.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitate hands-on science activities with groups of approx. 10-25 children

• Accommodate the needs of toddler, preschool, and school-age children

• Develop and implement new outreach programs

• Travel to outreach locations

• Incorporate National Common Core State Standards and STEM Education

• Conduct family science nights at outreach locations

• Collaborate with other outreach teachers and museum staff to further enrich programs

• Maintain organized materials for outreach programs

• Post educational, family-oriented contributions to the museum’s blog

Accounting Position – Part Time

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Weekly
    • Enter bills into QuickBooks & determine bill pay date
    • Print checks and assemble payment envelope, statement, etc. to ready for Executive Director signature/approval of payment
    • File paid bills
  • Monthly
    • Reconcile cash, credit card, PayPal, gift certificates and other accounts
    • Execute journal entries for interest
    • Prepare and execute journal entry for monthly Outreach activity
    • Enter credit card charges (Chase & Staples) into QuickBooks
    • Review P & L and Balance Sheet and bring to attention of management any discrepancies, make correcting adjustments
    • Compare actual expenses to budget by account to bring to attention of management any issues
    • Prepare packet of reports for the Finance Committee meeting
    • Attend Finance Committee meeting and be prepared to present report information
  • Quarterly
    • Prepare Board reports under direction of the Finance Committee
    • Review and note any variances for board packet
    • Pay quarterly sales taxes
  • Year-end
    • Prepare financial packet for year-end review
    • Make year-end accountant adjustments
  • Annually
    • Create annual budget and present to Finance Committee  with reasoning for each account
    • Input annual budget into QuickBooks after approval from the Board of Directors
  • Special projects – as needed
    • Fill out funder/sponsor annual financial reports
    • Complete reimbursement forms and cover letters for submission for LCC grants
